Open Call for art and science project proposals

The Finnish Bioart Society is delighted to invite artists and scientists to submit their project proposals for the Finnish chapter of Public Technologies, an art and science exhibition, organized in a public space in Helsinki during August - December 2011.

The central goals and themes set for the exhibition are to create cooperation between art, science and technology, to promote innovative processes in contemporary culture and to make a space in an urban environment for art. The exhibition is produced by the Finnish Bioart Society together with the European Public Art Centre (EPAC). Ten organizations from nine different countries participate in the programme and in eight of them (Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and United Kingdom) the exhibition will open on the same day in August 2011; this is the first time an exhibition opens at the same time in this many European countries.

The exhibition is organized in a multipurpose outdoor exhibition space (a transparent polycarbonate cubicle). Over a period of five months three art projects will be presented in the space. The location of this cubicle will be chosen in collaboration with the selected artist, scientist or group.

The Finnish Bioart Society is now looking for project proposals focusing on multidisciplinary projects such as art&sci and bioart in public space. The selected project will be presented in the Helsinki space, opening in August and it will afterwards travel to one of the other countries involved. In the proposal the artists and/or scientists should put forward both their project proposal as well as the preferred public space location. The Finnish Bioart Society can help choose a team to realize the proposed ideas if needed.

The proposals should consist of project plan (max. 2 A4 pages), the working group members' CVs and a cost estimate. Pictures, CDs and DVDs can be attached. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you wish your material to be returned. The Bioart Society does not accept responsibility for material sent without sufficient return postage. The deadline for the proposals is the 31st of January 2011. An application bearing the postmark of the application deadline is sufficient also for applications that are sent from abroad.

Avoin haku taiteilijoille ja tutkijoille! Open call for artists and scientists! (Scroll down for English)

Ohjelmaan osallistuu kymmenen organisaatiota yhdeksästä eri maasta, joissa kahdeksassa (Tšekki,  Suomi, Kreikka, Latvia, Hollanti, Norja, Portugali ja Iso-Britannia) tullaan elokuussa 2011 avamaan saman aikaisesti näyttely Public Technologies. Tämä on ensimmäinen kerta kuin näin monessa Euroopan maassa samana päivänä taidenäyttely saa avajaisensa.

Public Technologies järjestetään julkiseen tilaan sijoitettavassa läpinäkyvässä polykarbonaatista tehdyssä näyttelykuutiossa. Viiden kuukauden aikana tilassa on esillä kolme teosta, joista ensimmäinen teos tulee Suomesta.
