Marion Louisgrand Sylla from Dakar (Senegal) is the third resident of Pixelache Micro-Residencies during 27.8-3.9.2012. /////////// BIO Marion Louisgrand Sylla is together with Francois Sylla the founder of Kër Thiossane, Villa for Art and Multimedia based in Dakar, that recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The activities of this media art centre started in 2003 with the aim to provide African artists with access to multimedia tools. //////////////////////////// PRESENTATION BY MARION LOUISGRAND: THE STORY OF KËR THIOSSANNE Time & Location: Wednesday 29.8.2012, @Pixelache Office (Cable Factory, C-staircase, 4th floor).
 Marion Louisgrand will tell us about the history of Kër Thiossane in the Senegalese context and more generally about the emergence and specificity of media art in Africa. She will present several projects initiated by Kër Thiossane during the past years like AfroPixel - the first African Digital Art Festival and Rose Des Vents Numérique, developed within UE-ACP cultural Programm, in collaboration with others structures in Africa and Caraïbes. This programme, through different activities, including residencies, workshops, professional meetings and festivals, tries to facilitate the access of artists and the larger public to technologies and new media art practices, emphasizing free software. Through the platform Ci Diguente, Rose des Vents numériques and its partners created a new media art network in Africa and Caraïbes to support long-term cooperations.
