Location: Kiasma Mediatheque"Expedition to the Total Eclipse" is an exhibition about Capsula's cross-disciplinary expedition to the zone of the total solar eclipse in Siberia, in August 2008. It premieres artworks created during the expedition, by Agnes-Meyer Brandis (DE), Mireia C. Saladrigues (ES) and Tommi Taipale (FI). It will open at Kiasma Mediatheque on March 6 and will be on view until June 7.
This project has been initiated and curated by Ulla Taipale from Capsula. The aim of Capsula is to experience and explore natural phenomena through artistic investigation and to facilitate collaborations between artists and scientists. Capsula also sets out to revive leisurely and ecological traveling experiences. Ulla Taipale will be in residence in Helsinki during February 2009 to prepare for the exhibition. This production residency is a collaboration between HIAP (Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme) and Pixelache. The exhibition "Expedition to the total Eclipse" is co-produced by Capsula, Pixelache and HIAP and has also received support from the following organisations: AVEK, Finnish Arts Council, Kiasma, Goethe Institut, Institut Ramon Llull.URSA, an astronomical association organizes star and sun viewing sessions in an observatory in Kaivopuisto park. It is situated in the middle of Helsinki (map). During the Pixelache Festival there is a possibility to observe through the telescope starry sky and also to observe the solar phenomena with URSA personnel. All interested are wellcome to the URSA observatory, in a modest price of 2€, children 1€.
