Weltstadt exhibition launch and discussion

Weltstadt - Who Creates the City? is a living archive that examines cities and their flux, seeking new and emerging practices for urban life, particularly against the backdrop of migration, social polarisation, and shifting demographics.

Pixelache Festival, in collaboration with Laituri and Goethe Institut, present an exhibition of the Weltstadt archive in Helsinki. The exhibition will run from 25 September until 17 October, with an opening/launch event at 16:00 on Thursday, 24 September. Weltstadt project editor Leona Lynen will present the exhibition. This will be followed by a discussion with Leona and several local cultural activists and urban thinkers: Otso Kivekäs (Helsinki City Council); Mikko Fritze (Goethe Institut, Helsinki); Hilla Rudanko (architect and member of Uusi Kaupunki); and Maija Faehnle (University of Helsinki), moderated by Pixelache festival directors Agnieszka Pokrywka and John W. Fail.

The project Weltstadt – Who creates the city? is a joint initiative of the Goethe-Institut and the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development. Curators Matthias Böttger, Angelika Fitz and Tim Rieniets (until 2013) were tasked with developing the contents of “Weltstadt – Who creates the city?”
