Picture House exhibition at Belsay Hall Mansion is opening next week on 5 May, with a Digital dinner organised by Dott07 on 3 May.

The exhibition features three projects curated by Juha Huuskonen / Pixelache: brand new work from Golan Levin, Adam Somlai-Fischer & Bengt Sjölén and UVA. The digital artworks will join the company of 12 more works curated by Judith King, from an amazingly diverse group of creators: some names you probably might recognize include filmmaker Mike Figgis, fashion designers Viktor and Rolf and actress Tilda Swinton.

Adam-Somlai Fischer and Bengt Sjölén have documented the making of their installation Aleph.

We are currently seeking worldwide contributions interpreting ‘risk’.

We are looking for pieces that ‘risk’ and rip it to pieces, personally, politically, creatively. This can come from any sector of the arts including but not limited to: fine art, design, critique, creative writing, personal essays, interviews / profiles, features, fashion, illustration, drawing, painting, photography, photojournalism, graphics: we want work from a broad spectrum and include 3d design, moving image, installation, music, & web-based artwork as focuses for articles. We love to see collaboration and interdisciplinary work.

Please send an initial proposal and small sample of work (under 3mb) to submissions@revolvewire.co.uk. Deadline for proposals: April 25th 2007.

If you’ve not heard by May 14th, you’ve been unsuccessful this time, but please resubmit to future editions. While contributions are currently unpaid, you will get a couple of copies of your issue, plus international publicity.

RevolveWire will find you twice a year (‘Winter / Spring’ & ‘Summer / Autumn’) to bring you a carousel of creativity and debates in image, music, and text. RevolveWire will tell stories to you, and you to it. You’ll want to keep it with you and talk to it daily, like a secret obsession. Each issue we take a key word and ask collaborators and contributors to suggest their interpretation. Finding different threads and strands of the thematic fabric, we then commission, suggesting joint or solo work. We look for those who create, interpret, and transform the environment around them. Profiles include Oscar & Bafta winning Andrea Arnold on her new film ‘Red Road’; musicians Graham Massey and Paddy Steer (Toolshed, Homelife, ex 808-State & Lionrock); Mike Grigsby (documentary filmmaker); Doug Fishbone (artist). Other writers, stylists, photographers and illustrators are either established practitioners in their fields or the new blood everyone should be watching out for. In Issue 1 you will find a free CD of Electro-Folk label Timbreland Recordings plus tracks from Toolshed.

Pixelache Highlights

Prix Möbius Nordica competition and Pixelache together decided to give special awards to some of the most interesting projects in the Nordic VJ Meeting. An invited jury watched through all the performances and decided to give the awards, titled ‘Pixelache Highlights’ to following acts:

- Propaganda from Estonia
Because of the energy of their VJ performance and their skill in interpreting the music into images and visual rhythms. Their work takes into account the essential elements of VJing: the space, the audience, the other performers and the music.

- VJ Bertranol / Grains & Pixels performance
Creating a new platform for and at the same time looking into the future possibilities of integrated audiovisual performance. Creative approach in integrating real-time footage into live performance on digital platform.

- Bottega Arete + VJ Samesame + Casper Obro
Creative collaboration by using several VJ outputs together in an interesting way in live performance. Fresh and unexpected footage and the skill in taking into account the relation between the footage and display set-up.

Congratulations for all awarded acts! And thanks to all Pixelache Nordic VJ Meeting participants for their great contributions and positive energy! We hope that in near future we will see more collaboration within the VJ scene in Nordic and Baltic region.

Lightrhythm Visuals Singles 11-15

Singles 11-15 – an absorbing new visual album produced by VJ artists and motion graphic designers from around the world – is the latest release from the Lightrhythm Visuals label. 11-15 is an abundant collection optical diversity, bearing a liberated, modern atmosphere with museum-calibre images; its a must see for the designer, VJ and art collector. With visual “remixes”, multiple angle features and extra ocular delights concealed in the ROM section of the disc it’s the overflowing with the next wave of filmic revolution.
The works fluctuate between matured abstraction and somatic invention, creating worlds where the elemental play of structure, light, and icon compete for the leading role. Varying approaches yield a range of moods from the teeming fluidity of “voyeur” to the dynamic vibrance of “nihonbashi”

A key element of Singles 11-15 is its collaborative concept: each artist shared their source files with other top visual performers and designers around the world. Each VJ then remixed the elements of one track, arranging and interpreting the composition in their own style. The results are included as alternate DVD angles.

Remixes utilizing the DVDs multiangle feature, allow two animations to run simultaneously. The album includes collaborative sessions from expanding artists like C-TRL labs, designers of the “VJ Book”, VJ MMM producers of Motiondive Software, Kevlar and VJ Reel (insector labo) holding their own next to top EU acts like VJ Anyone voted no#3 in the world by DJ Magazines charts and VJ Oxygen curator of arts in Holland. The old school analog visual chemistry of Benton C Bainbridge who for this release used historic video synthisizers shared his efforts with remix artists Pixelshifter who re-interpreted the same aesthetics using their custom made visual software r:Dog. Rounded off by Co-founder Ben Sheppee, the accruement of this album matches high expectations and the result of 18 months of carefully guided efforts. All said, more than 15 artists contributed a score of DVD elements to this album, with even more material (bonus vj clips and tracks) collected in the ROM section of the disc.
