Pixelache Helsinki 2011
The 10th edition of Pixelache Helsinki takes place on Suomenlinna island, a world heritage site that is home for about 850 inhabitants, several art organisations, an open prison, a military base and one abandoned submarine.
By the mere fact of living an ordinary modern urban life, we produce a huge amount of information about ourselves that we are hardly aware of, nor we usually see or make use of. Through this data we become traceable, accessible, predictable – and clearly enough – ideal clients of information-based capitalism.
The Groworld Bazaar is a collection of projects exploring connections between plants and people. The Groworld initiative brings together three ‘forces’ capable of transforming the world on human and ecological scales: culture, gardening and technology.
The 4th edition of Signals from South (a programme section focusing on art, media and technology projects from Asia, Africa and South America) will feature an exhibition by Jean Katambayi Mukendi from Congo (RDC).
Äänen Lumo has chosen an eclectic bunch of artists to perform at Pixelache Club events on Friday + Saturday - featuring Yann Leguay (FR), Taco Bells and Martin Küchen, Gayborhood DJ’s, Varropas, annajoanna!, Laulan Sinule (EST), DJ’s Esmeralda Temple and Myan Maraca.
An important meta-theme for Pixelache 2011 is energy: featured in artworks (Andy Best, Maria Duncker & Koelse, Jean Katambayi Mukendi), workshops (Bartaku’s edible solar cells) and discussions (Art and Renewable Energy network meeting).
